
Day-to-Day Substitute Teachers | Early Childhood and Grade School
Introduction
River Valley Waldorf School is seeking enthusiastic and reliable Day-to-Day Substitute Teachers for our Early Childhood and Grade School programs. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who are passionate about working with children, have a flexible schedule, and are interested in contributing to a dynamic and nurturing school community. Substitute teachers play a vital role in maintaining continuity and providing care and guidance to our students when regular teachers are unavailable.
General Description
Responsibilities:
- Follow lesson plans provided by the lead teacher to guide the daily rhythm of the classroom.
- Supervise and engage with students in both indoor and outdoor settings.
- Create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment for students.
- Collaborate with classroom assistants and faculty as needed to ensure smooth transitions and maintain classroom harmony.
- Communicate any observations or concerns with the lead teacher or appropriate faculty member at the end of the day.
Work Environment:
- Early Childhood classrooms serve children ages 2 years 7 months-6 years old and include both indoor and outdoor activities throughout the day.
- Grade School classrooms serve children in grades 1-8, offering a rich and balanced curriculum rooted in Waldorf pedagogy.
Qualifications
- Experience working with children in an educational or childcare setting.
- An interest in Waldorf education and child development.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Flexibility, patience, and the ability to adapt to a variety of classroom settings and age groups.
- Punctuality and reliability are essential.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required.
Hours & Compensation
- Flexible schedule based on availability and school needs.
- Substitutes are contacted on an as-needed basis, often with short notice.
- Compensation: $150 per day for early childhood and grade school substitutes.
